Incredible hike

Walking through the Corredor de los Gaitanes was incredible. The cliffs felt huge on both sides, and I stopped to take photos of the Gaitanejo Waterfall. Our guide showed us fossils along the trail, which was awesome to see. The fact that surprised me was that the trail was originally made for hydropower workers. Seeing the river passing through Los Gaitanes was stunning; I took so many photos. I definitely want to go again! And next time, I plan on exploring at least one white village as well!

Perfect day trip from Málaga

I was a bit nervous about the height, but I felt super safe the entire time. I love hiking, but this was a very special experience. Crossing the Hanging Bridge and walking above Los Gaitanes gave me an adrenaline rush. The best part was that we had a guide with us. He was very knowledgeable and explained how the original walkway almost fell apart. The ride from Málaga was super comfortable. I really liked that I didn’t have to plan anything! 10/10

DESCRIPTION

Caminito del Rey tour from Málaga

BEGIN THE JOURNEY

Join the Caminito del Rey tour from Málaga and explore one of Spain’s most famous gorges. Meet your guide at a central point in Málaga city, then board a bus to the North Access entrance. The ride takes about one hour. The walk itself is 4.6 miles (7.5 km) long and follows wooden paths fixed to the cliffs of Los Gaitanes. These platforms rise more than 328 feet (100 meters) above the Guadalhorce River. The scenery includes cliffs, tunnels, rivers, and forests. Your guide will point out unique plants and birds often seen in the gorge. Along the way, you’ll see the Gaitanejo Waterfall and the Gaitanejo Reservoir. You will also see a glass balcony that lets you look straight down.

TAKE THE KING’S PATH

The trail was built between 1901 and 1905 to connect two hydroelectric plants. In 1921, King Alfonso XIII crossed part of the walkway for the opening of the Conde del Guadalhorce Dam. This visit gave the trail its famous name, “The King’s Little Path”. Your guide will share stories about the workers who built the path and how dangerous it once was. You will also see the old cement walkway still clinging to the rock face. Along the route is the Sillón del Rey, a stone seat and table created for the king. The guide will also show you fossils embedded in the rocks, dating back millions of years.

THE FINAL STRETCH

Cross the Hanging Bridge, a suspension bridge 100 meters (328 feet) above the gorge. Hear from your guide how visitors once sighed with relief after making it across. Walk through the Corridor of the Gaitanes. It is the narrowest and most dramatic section of the hike, with vertical cliffs on both sides. With that, your walk will start to come to an end. After you finish, you'll take a short break. Then, the bus will take you back to Málaga city, completing your Caminito del Rey guided tour.
