Fun day tour from Málaga to Ronda! This trip is great because you see some other sights. Ronda was so cute - I loved all the little white houses, the view from the cliffs, the big plazas. Setenil was more special though, I think. I’ve never seen houses like that, literally in the cliff. It reminded me a little of The Flintstones actually haha. And the little train ride was adorable.
The bus was very comfortable, air-conditioned, and also had charging sockets for electronics. Our guide JJ was very attentive, engaging, and super good-natured. He even showed us his favorite restaurants in Ronda. Ronda isn’t all that big, it’s very beautiful, but you don’t need that long to see it. Setenil was also lovely, but definitely more to see in Ronda. However, it goes without saying that the landscape in both Ronda and Setenil is stunning.

Your guide will then lead you on a tour, taking you to landmarks like the Tajo Gorge. The canyon is over 100 metres deep, and divides the city in two! You’ll also visit its bridges: Puente Nuevo, Puente Viejo, and Puente Romano. As you walk, your guide will tell you about the town’s history. The town is located along the narrow gorge of the river Trejo, hanging high above the rushing water. The Moors people founded the town there in the 12th century. They recognized the protruding natural caves and overhangs as the ideal protected spots. So, they built houses, which were slowly modernised over the years.

Interesting facts about Ronda
- Puente Nuevo was completed in 1793 after more than three decades of construction. There is a small chamber above the central arch that was used as a prison and today holds a display about the bridge.
- Ronda’s Arab Baths date to the 13th–14th centuries and are considered the best-preserved Moorish baths in Spain, with a layout modeled on Roman thermal baths.
- Ronda’s Plaza de Toros was built between 1779 and 1785 and is one of Spain’s oldest stone bullrings. The first opening in 1784 saw a partial stand collapse, so it officially reopened in 1785. Ronda’s own Pedro Romero helped popularize modern bullfighting on foot and the use of the estoque and muleta.
- Film legend Orson Welles loved Ronda so much that in 1987 his ashes were interred in a dry well at the ranch of his friend, bullfighter Antonio Ordóñez, just outside the town.
