I feel like this day trip to Morocco really shows you the country’s authentic side. We didn’t just see the typical touristy places. Abdul, our guide took us to his favorite restaurant, and explained how they made the lentil soup. At the souk we bought argan oil but they also explained the benefits of rhassoul clay. And there were so many local stories from Abdul, like about the cemetery on Mount Dersa. I feel like we would have missed out a lot if we were just visiting Morocco independently.
If you’re like me (German) and have seen every country in Europe, this is the perfect tour. I wanted to travel to Morocco because I have never been to Africa. I wanted to see something different. And it was amazing! The architecture is unlike anything in Europe. The low houses and white walls are beautiful. I also liked the busy market atmosphere, the relaxed nature of the people, and the bright colours. Also very good organization. Bus and ferry were both comfortable and on time. Border control was fast.

EXPLORE CEUTA
Your Day Trip from Málaga, Spain to Morocco starts by driving through the Costa del Sol to Algeciras. There you’ll board the ferry to sail the Strait of Gibraltar, and explore Ceuta! This is a Spanish city on the northern coast of Africa, just across from Gibraltar, with a unique blend of Arabic and Spanish culture. Your guide will show you its Royal Walls - fortifications whose oldest parts date back to the 10th century! The Portuguese built most of them when they captured the city in the 16th century. They also constructed the Moat of San Felipe. It is considered one of the few navigable moats in the world that pass between medieval walls.
SEE TETOUAN’S MAIN ATTRACTIONS
Your bus will continue to Tetouan, an important cultural city in northern Morocco. You’ll start sightseeing at Hassan II Square, where you can see the Royal Palace or the Khalifa Palace. It’s called that because the khalifa - the personal representative of the Sultan of Morocco - lived there. Close by are two museums: The Museum of Modern Art and The Archaeological Museum. Your next stop is the mellah or the old Jewish quarter. This is where a large community of Jewish Sephardi lived. Their district is full of charming winding streets and narrow architecture. You’ll also see the Isaac Ben Walid Synagogue - the city’s only remaining synagogue.
ENTER TETOUAN’S MEDINA: A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE
Continue into Tetouan’s historical city center: its medina. This old district is full of white walls, low houses, and vibrant green doors. As you stroll, you’ll get a taste of true Moroccan lifestyle as vendors sell goods and friends play cards at cafes. Your guide will take you to a Moroccan restaurant, where you’ll enjoy a typical couscous dish for lunch. There’ll also be Arabic pastries and live music! Finally, end your visit at a traditional herbalist. Listen to the vendor to learn about the benefits of argan oil. Argan is indigenous to Morocco!
